Hands-on Engineering + Architecture + AI Adoption + Data Visualization + Platform Evolution

As Lead Software Engineer – AI, Data Visualization & Platform, you will help bridge architectural vision, product innovation, advanced visualization, and day-to-day engineering execution.

You will work closely with our Lead Solutions Architect, Products Integrative Director, Technical Project Manager, and Staff and Senior Developers across front-end and back-end teams. You will contribute to both our current production platform and the next generation of our technology.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role, with approximately 70% of your time dedicated to technical execution and 30% focused on technical leadership, mentorship, and team development.

You will bring strong software engineering experience, architectural thinking, curiosity, and a practical interest in AI and emerging technologies.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Leadership, AI Adoption & Delivery (30%)

• Mentor and support developers while fostering a culture of technical excellence, curiosity, and continuous learning.
• Drive the practical adoption of AI-assisted development tools and workflows across the engineering team.
• Establish effective practices and guidelines for using AI while maintaining strong standards for code quality, testing, security, and code review.
• Collaborate with the Lead Solutions Architect on architecture, system design, and technical direction.
• Partner with the Products Integrative Director to explore and translate new product ideas into technical solutions.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and prototype approaches that can create meaningful product or engineering advantages.
• Work closely with the Technical Project Manager to ensure technical feasibility, identify risks, and support reliable delivery.
• Participate in occasional onsite deployments and international travel when required.

2. Technical Excellence & Hands-on Development (70%)

• Write and maintain production-quality code for critical system components across the full stack.
• Evolve and progressively modernize our Angular and C#/.NET Core platform.
• Contribute to scalable architectures, distributed systems, APIs, data flows, and third-party integrations.
• Help introduce next-generation capabilities involving cloud-native applications, containerization, event-driven systems, and modern deployment practices.
• Develop and integrate AI-powered features into production software, helping move initiatives from experimentation to reliable capabilities.
• Contribute to AI applications involving LLMs, agents, RAG, embeddings, intelligent search, workflow orchestration, and related technologies.
• Help develop advanced, interactive, and real-time data visualization experiences for complex datasets such as financial markets, elections, sports, mapping, and dashboards.
• Optimize real-time data systems, integrations, performance, reliability, and deployment processes.
• Collaborate with Staff and Senior Developers on technical design and code reviews.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software development experience.
• Experience in a senior technical role, such as Lead, Staff, Principal, Technical Lead, or equivalent.
• Strong hands-on experience with software development and system design.
• Experience designing scalable applications, APIs, distributed systems, or complex data flows.
• Professional experience with C#/.NET and Angular/TypeScript, or closely related technologies.
• Experience working with cloud-based, distributed, or real-time applications.
• Practical experience applying AI or Generative AI to software development, engineering workflows, or products.
• Ability to move between detailed technical implementation, architecture, and broader product discussions.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with demanding deadlines.
• A hands-on mindset: this is not a management-only position.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be an asset:

• AI-assisted coding, software modernization, or developer enablement.
• LLM applications, agents, tool calling, RAG, embeddings, vector search, or workflow orchestration.
• Production AI systems, including considerations related to reliability, latency, cost, security, privacy, observability, and evaluation.
• Advanced data visualization using technologies such as D3.js, Highcharts, ECharts, Plotly, Three.js, Canvas, SVG, WebGL, or WebGPU.
• Geospatial visualization, mapping, dashboards, or other data-intensive interactive applications.
• Real-time data technologies such as Kafka, WebSockets, messaging systems, or event-driven architectures.

• Develop and maintain ingest services that connect to third-party APIs (REST, GraphQL, WebSockets, Webhooks), ensuring idempotent ingestion, retry handling, and rate-limit compliance.
• Implement transformation logicto normalize heterogeneous data into unified JSON/Protobuf schemas.
• Design and optimize storage solutionsacross SQL Server, MongoDB, and Kafka, applying best practices for indexing, partitioning, and time-series handling.
• Integrate with real-time event buses (RabbitMQ, MQTT, WebSockets) to deliver data updates with sub-second latency.

Job Description

• Design, build, and optimize real-time graphics and data-driven visuals using Vizrt for live broadcast productions.
• Develop scene layouts, transitions, and animations in Viz Artist
• Collaborate with producers, directors, and developers to create high-quality on-air graphics, including virtual sets, AR overlays, and interactive maps.
• Collaborate closely with Vizrt Integrators to ensure designs are technically feasible
• Integrate Vizrt projects with real-time data feeds (elections, sports, finance, news) and ensure accuracy and reliability for live broadcasts.
• Troubleshoot and solve technical challenges related to Vizrt workflows, pipelines, and asset integration.
• Participate in technical planning, asset reviews, and cross-team collaboration to ensure scalable and maintainable solutions.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional experience with Vizrt or similar real-time broadcast graphics platforms.
• Strong knowledge of real-time rendering, 3D asset integration, and on-air graphics pipelines.
• Proven experience working on live broadcast or fast-turnaround production environments.
• Solid understanding of data visualization, animation, and motion graphics in a broadcast context.
• Familiarity with complementary tools such as Unity, Unreal, or AR/VR frameworks is a plus.

Job Description

As a Lead Front & Back-End Developer at Astucemedia, you will bridge the gap between high-level architectural vision and daily execution. Working in a high-collaboration environment, you will partner closely with our Technical Project Manager (TPM) and Principal Architect, while being supported by Staff/Senior Developers in both Front-end and Back-end.

This role requires a balanced 30/70 split between people management and technical oversight. You thrive in fast-paced environments, are comfortable meeting short, high-stakes deadlines typical of live television, and are ready to witness the impact of your work onsite when necessary.

Key Responsibilities

1. People Leadership & Delivery (30%)

• Team Mentorship: Lead, coach, and inspire a team of 6 developers. Conduct 1-on-1s, manage performance, and foster a culture of excellence.
• TPM Partnership: Work hand-in-hand with the Technical Project Manager to ensure technical feasibility and maintain a steady delivery pace, even under tight production schedules.
• Onsite Deployment: Occasionally travel to client sites (a few weeks per year) to oversee the integration and launch of major projects. (candidate must be able to travel to US without restrictions).

2. Technical Excellence & Hands-on Development (70%)

• Core Development: Actively write and maintain production-quality code for critical system components. You will lead by example, tackling complex features across the full stack (Angular,  and .NET Core).
• High-Level Code Review & Mentoring: In tandem with the Staff Dev and Senior Back-end, you perform rigorous code reviews to ensure the codebase remains robust, scalable, and follows industry best practices.
• System Integration & Cohesion: Take a hands-on approach to ensuring seamless integration between Angular web applications and Node.js / .NET Core backend services, maintaining end-to-end logic integrity.
• Performance Optimization: Collaborate to optimize real-time data streams (Kafka, WebSockets) and infrastructure (Docker, CI/CD pipelines) to guarantee zero-failure performance during high-pressure live broadcasts.

Qualifications & Skills

• Experience: 10+ years in software development with a proven track record in leadership or Lead Tech roles.
• Agility: Ability to remain calm and focused while working with short deadlines and evolving project requirements.
• Frontend Expertise: understanding of Angular, HTML5, and CSS3.
• Backend & Data Proficiency: Strong proficiency in  C# / .NET Core.
• Solid grasp of API design (REST, GraphQL) and messaging protocols (AMQP, MQTT, WebSockets).
• Infrastructure: Proficiency with Docker, Git, and schema validation.
• Soft Skills: Exceptional communication, problem-solving mindset, and a willingness to travel.
• Languages: Proficiency in English is required; bilingualism in French is a strong asset.
